McKinley Chalet Resort

This resort is owned by Carnival Corp and is used by Holland America. The Princess Wilderness Lodge is right next door. If you are staying at either property, you can use the facilities at each. They are situated between Hi-way 3 and the Nenana River, about 1 mile from Denali Park boundary. (no hotels in the park) There are free buses every ½ hour to the park visitors centre.

This resort is quite spread out. There are many lodges and cabins scattered through-out the property. Some closer to the Main Lodge lobby area, some down the hill closer to Denali Square where most of the restaurants and shops as well as the out-door firepits and gathering area are.

I’m staying in building Z, the furthest building. It’s on a bluff overlooking the river. Of course the mountains can be seen from everywhere! For me it’s a brisk 5 min walk to Denali Square, or 10 min to Main lobby area. There are shuttle buses, but it’s a pleasant walk.

The rooms have a rustic feel, but are very comfortable. No wifi in the rooms, just the Main Lodge and Denali square area.

Quite a few food options from casual take-out, causal dine-in to fine dining. Prices on the high side, as expected in a resort. Right across the street is “Glitter Gulch” with some locally owned restaurants and stores, generally lower priced. So there are lots of choices. The restaurants can get very busy, especially for dinner, so plan accordingly! (I would highly recommend Denali Doghouse for gourmet reindeer hotdogs, and great burgers!)
