Anchorage

An easy 3 1/2 hour non-stop flight on Air Canada from Vancouver to Anchorage. Raining lightly on arrival and about 16 C. Quite a change from Vancouver! Good organization from Holland America from meeting passengers at baggage claim, getting them to the bus to transport them to respective hotels, and getting a briefing on the tour to come. No need to check-in at the hotel, room keys were handed out with our information package.

Our evening was free and the rain had stopped, so I decided to walk into town and check out the 4th of July fair held in one of the parks. The rides and booths seem to be a big hit with families. There isn't really much else to see as everything is closed for the holiday. Anchorage has a beautiful setting, surrounded by mountains on 3 sides and the inlet on the 4th. An odd mix of old and new buildings.

It's going to be an early start tomorrow, so I decide to walk back to the hotel for a bite to eat. The Sheraton is an okay hotel, but it is on the edge of downtown and the area looks a bit sketchy. The service is friendly, but stretched thin on this holiday.
